There are actually certain steps that you can take to ensure that you minimize the occurrences of flu and fever in your child’s life and give their immunity a boost. Here’s a look at some of them.
Serve more fruits and vegetables
Whether it’s a toddler or an adult, we all know how important fruits and vegetables are to our diet. Certain fruits and vegetables such as carrots, oranges, broccoli, green beans and strawberries contain Vitamin C and carotenoids. These nutrients are extremely beneficial in producing white blood cells and antibodies that help the body fight infections. Try to get your child to eat five servings of fruits and veggies a day.
Breast-feed your baby
Breast milk is God’s way of helping infants protect their health. Studies have shown that colostrum, which is the thin yellow milk that babies get in the first few days of breast-feeding allows the baby to get the necessary antibodies required. When a mother continues to breast feed until about a year, it can hinder infections, allergies, diarrhea and other health problems from the child.
If you’re working, it is still possible to breast feed your child. Get yourself equipped with a breast pump, some milk bottles and a cooler and you’re good to go.

Get sufficient sleep
Is your child getting the correct amount of sleep time? Children need way more sleep than adults do. For example, a newborn baby will need about 18 hours of sleep, toddlers require 12 to 13 hours and a 4 to 6 year old child will need about 10 hours of sleep. Sleep is important to us as this is the time that the body takes to renew its cells and fight off germs and viruses.
Is your child’s bed or sleeping area conducive enough for a restful sleep? Ensure that he/she has a comfortable bed and mattress and the temperature in the room isn’t too hot or cold.

We know exercise can keep us fit and healthy but we tend to promote exercising among adults generally. Doing regular physical activities will benefit your child as well.
