Being healthier has always been in my checklist but seem so difficult to tick off. However, one method I found that I’ve been able to stick to for a healthier body is juicing. I used to get my juices from those juice bars found in shopping malls like Boost Juice Bar, Juice Works and La Juiceria but ever since getting my own juicer, I’ve been making my own now. So if you’re thinking of giving your body the vitamins and nutrition it needs, here is a guide to get you started.
When to drink your fresh juices
I believe you’ve heard people saying that the best time to eat fruits is half an hour before a meal when your stomach is empty. The same goes when drinking juices. This is because the stomach absorbs the food better when it is empty.
The best time of course for juicing is in the morning as the nutritious juices would provide you the required energy to start your day and you will feel more energized at work. Later in the evening, choose juices that are less sweet like green juices.
What to juice
If you have only recently tried out juicing, then choose fruits and vegetables that you enjoy eating first. This is so that you get comfortable with the idea of consuming fruits and vegetables in liquid form. Once you’ve become accustomed to the taste and texture, then you can start experimenting with different ingredients.
Remember that juicing isn’t just limited to fruits alone, do use vegetables like celery, beetroot and carrots in your ingredients as well. Look for some easy recipes online for a start if you’re not sure how to begin.
Drink your juices immediately
Juices are unable to retain its nutrition when exposed to air. You might also notice it changing colour as it has oxidized. As such drink your juices right after making them and avoid storing them in the refrigerator as well.
If you do need to store it for later consumption, then pour your juice into a thermos flask where light cannot penetrate.
Clean your juicer well
When choosing a juicer, make sure that it is easy to assemble, dismantle and clean. Also make sure that you clean your juicer preferably right after using it to prevent contamination or mold growing. For those difficult to reach parts, use a toothbrush to get the remnants out.
